Typing tests hand you random words and a stopwatch. Type Town hands you a song. Pick one, and its lyrics fill the screen while a second caret moves through them with the singer. Your job is to type each word as it's sung. Every word is judged on timing, combos multiply the score, and the run ends with WPM, accuracy, a sync score and a grade.
How it plays
Hitting a word close to when it's sung scores a perfect, then great or good as you drift, and anything outside that window counts as early or late. Easy plays the song at 0.75× speed, medium at 0.9× and hard at full speed, and each difficulty has its own leaderboard. Short on time? Play just the hook. It's found by looking for the most-repeated block of lines, and the audio starts a few seconds early so you can find the beat.
Any song, found automatically
The song list is today's Apple Music top 100 for your country, or anything you search by title, artist or a line you remember. Click one and the rest is found for you: time-synced lyrics from lrclib, and the best-matching YouTube upload for the audio. If an upload won't embed or never starts, the next one takes over, and the game remembers which one worked so the next player gets it first time.
Knowing a song's speed before you start
Every song is rated by the typing speed you'd need to keep up with the singer, worked out from its synced lyrics, from chill under 75 WPM to rapid past 160. The server fetches each country's chart once a day and measures a song's speed once, then keeps it for a month. The browser keeps today's list too, so a repeat visit shows it instantly with no requests.
Scores worth sharing
Sign-in is an email code, with no password. Every run is saved to your profile and the song's leaderboard, and a LeetCode-style card shows what share of players you beat on score, WPM and accuracy. Runs share as generated images sized for X and Instagram stories, and a run finished while signed out is kept for an hour and saved as soon as you sign in.
